Call for Candidate Nominations for the

KAPA President Elect

 

The Kansas Academy of Physician Associates is currently calling for President Elect nominations. Please read below for more information about the process, including submission procedures.

 

You may nominate yourself or another KAPA Fellow Member. If you are nominating someone, please obtain the nominee's permission.

 

Pursuant to the recently amended Bylaws the Kansas Academy of PAs will hold elections this spring for the following positions.

 

President-Elect – one position

  • Requirement of the position:
    • Candidates for the position of President-elect must be a fellow member of KAPA, AAPA Fellow member in good standing and have previously had at least one full term experience on the board of directors.
    • The President-elect shall serve a three-year successive role term and shall take office on July 1 following the elections.
    • The term of office for the President-elect is one year.
    • At the end of the first year and on July 1, the President-elect will become President for one year.
    • At the end of their second year and on July 1, the President will become the immediate past-President for one year.

 

The KAPA Elections Committee will review nominations submitted and prepare a slate of qualified candidates to be adopted at the April 2023 Board of Directors meeting.

 

The election of the President Elect shall be conducted at least 45 days prior to July 1. An electronic election will be conducted and completed by the eligible voting members* on or before May 15, 2024.

 

  * Eligible voters includes KAPA Fellow members and Chapter members (formally sustaining members).

 

The candidate with the most votes received will be elected.

 

If a tie occurs, the winner will be declared by the KAPA Vice-President though drawing by lot (names pulled from a container).

 

Qualifications and Time Commitment

President Elect

 

Any KAPA Fellow member in good standing with at least one full term experience on the KAPA board of directors may serve President Elect. (A Fellow member of KAPA must also be an AAPA Fellow member in good standing)

 

The KAPA board meets at least quarterly, with some meetings held virtually. We meet in Topeka at least twice a year (January and July) and the fourth meeting coincides with the KAPA annual meeting, which is typically in Wichita (October). More than 4 meetings can occur as needed.

 

The meetings can last 90 minutes or more depending on the amount of activity. Some additional work outside the meeting can be required.

 

Duties

In the absence of both the President and Vice President, the President Elect shall assume the duties of the President.

Each nomination submission (including self-nominations) should contain:

  • Contact Information: Name, Practice Specialty, Work Affiliation, Home City, Email Address.
  • Nominee Statement: A one-paragraph biographical statement from the nominee indicating their interest in serving, practice experience and education/training background.
  • Submissions: Nominations should be submitted electronically to kansaspa@sbcglobal.net
